As your constituent, and a supporter of the Wisconsin Trust for Historic Preservation, I am writing today to encourage you to SUPPORT the Historic Preservation Tax Credit “Repair” Bill (Assembly Bill 375). This important legislation would modernize the state’s Historic Preservation Tax Credit (HTC) program, making it more accessible for historic rehabilitation projects across the state. It will ultimately help ensure Wisconsin’s historic properties remain vital community assets that support economic growth.

Wisconsin’s HTC program not only plays a key role in driving economic development, but it is also essential to preserving the state’s architectural heritage. However, several changes over the years to both the state and federal HTC tax credit programs have created eligibility obstacles that have delayed or “killed” certain historic rehabilitation projects. 

Fortunately, AB 375 aims to strengthen the state HTC program and better serve historic structures that embody Wisconsin’s cultural heritage and community identity. These buildings are anchors of local character, tourism, and pride. By lowering administrative barriers and expanding eligibility, this critical legislation will allow more of these irreplaceable landmarks to be preserved for future generations.
