How Your Sponsorship Helps Our Mission
Make a meaningful contribution to Wisconsin’s communities by supporting the documentation and rehabilitation of the state’s endangered historic places. Each and every donation contributes to our work in preserving legacies throughout Wisconsin. We’ve outlined several ways to sponsor our organization below.
By supporting us, you are not only preserving the state’s past, but also investing in a more vibrant present and sustainable future. Historic preservation is one of the best ways to create thriving neighborhoods, foster a sense of community, and promote economic development.
The Trust is dedicated to achieving these goals by preserving the state’s historic buildings and landscapes that represent the heart of our communities. Your sponsorship will enable our teams to expand our vision.
Gift of stock
Gift of stock to the Wisconsin Trust for Historic Preservation may help you avoid paying capital gains on the appreciated value of stock if you hold in publicly traded companies. The amount you can deduct for a contribution of ordinary income property is its fair market value minus the amount that would be ordinary income or short-term capital gain if you sold the property for its fair market value. Generally, this rule limits the deduction to your basis in the property.
Please contact the Trust to discuss your donation procedures. We recommend donors consult with their attorney or accountant before making the gift as well.
Making a bequest
Bequests are gifts that are made through a living trust or will. They allow donors to make a significant amount of gift while still having access and control over their assets when they are alive. The gift can be a specific amount or percentage of your estate, or the remainder of your estate after other provisions have been satisfied. You should speak with the attorney who is preparing your will about how you would like to make your bequest.
