Event for for grades K through 4
November workshop participants will celebrate Native American Heritage Month with a focus on the rich culture of Wisconsin’s Ho-Chunk Nation. Participants will hear how Ho-Chunk history tells of the first campfire lightings at Red Banks, near Green Bay, followed by a millennia of generations living across Wisconsin and beyond. Workshoppers will also learn about the clan system of Earth and Sky that keeps Ho-Chunk communities strong and are an integral part of individual and family identities, and wrap up the session with a council fire discussion.
The workshops are planned and led by museum staff and experienced educators. Participation is absolutely free, due to a generous grant from the Mount Horeb Community Foundation—but capacity is limited to just twenty students per month and registration is required.
